Builder Overview

Our Builder tool goes three levels deep: Courses Library > Course Cards/Sources/Collaborators > Single Course Card. Each level has its own tools to help you craft your course.

Account Settings Icons and Blue Header

Icons along the top right of the screen allow you to access your account and billing settings. Options include:

  • Upgrade button – Click this to upgrade your subscription tier
  • “Walk Me” icon An image of a question mark in a circle. This is our help icon. – Takes you to helpful articles on building a course
  • Your profile icon – Click this to access the Logout button and Settings An image of a gear representing the settings icon. (billing and subscription)

The blue header has breadcrumbs to let the user know where they are in the Builder (the example above shows we are on the Courses page).


Courses Layout

Upon logging into the Builder, you’ll find yourself on the Courses page. The Courses library displays each of your courses as a tile. Hovering on a course tile lets you access some quick tools to use on it. You can also create a new language version for the course from this view. Additional languages for a course are stacked behind the initial course and can be accessed with the Language dropdown on the course tile. New courses can be added by clicking the +New Course button.

Sidebar

The black sidebar on the left side of the screen has buttons that link to various libraries and pages. To minimize the sidebar, click the Toggle Sidebar icon An image of a sidebar. at the bottom of the sidebar. Available sidebar options depend on your subscription tier. Options include:

Displays a tile for each of your courses. Each tile includes the thumbnail image, title, language flag, published status, and the number of cards. You can also add a new course by clicking the +New Course button.

Media Our Media icon which looks like a photo of a mountain with a sun behind it.

Displays your media library files and folders and allows you to upload media to the library.

View your course data and feedback.

Customize your course by selecting the logo, colors, and style used on each course card to reflect your branding. You can also decide whether your audience can share or print the course from the Themes tab.

Your collaborators are those people who’ve helped you craft your course. They can include artists, authors, scientists, reviewers, and more! Add your collaborators to your library, then attach them from within your course to give credit where credit is due!

Add sources to your library, then, from within a course, attach a source to your course to show your audience you’ve done your research.

Course Tools

Access the course tools by hovering your cursor on a course tile until the tile darkens and tools are presented.

Course ToolWhat it Does
Edit Course buttonClicking this lets you enter the course where you can select formatted card types and add media and text to flesh out your course, as well as add/attach collaborators and sources.
Publish An image of an arrow pointing up at a cloud, representing our publish icon.Click this to publish your complete course. Once published, you can share your course link with others.
Unpublish An image of a cloud with a slash through it, representing our unpublish icon.Click this to unpublish a published course. This will NOT delete your course, only remove it from being seen publicly.
View Published Course An image of a computer monitor, this symbolizes out view published course icon.Clicking this icon allows you to open your published course in a new tab.
Course Settings An image of a gear representing the settings icon.Clicking this opens the Course settings page where you can adjust the Course Name, Tags, Description, Theme, and thumbnail, as well as copy the course link.
Additional Tools …Copy Link An image of a chain link symbolizing the copy link action. – Copy a link to the course – only published courses will display

Duplicate As An image of two papers stacked, representing our duplicate icon. – Create a copy of your course – the title has (copy) beside it and the URL differs from the original

+New Language/Language and Flag A drawing of an American flag, used to represent the language selected flag.Click this to add a new language/Access the other language versions of the course

Course Cards/Sources/Collaborators Layout

Within a course, you can use the Cards, Sources, and Collaborators tabs in the blue header to navigate to these course-specific pages. The Cards page displays all of the cards in your course (hovering your cursor on a card lets you access quick tools to delete, copy, or edit the card), Sources lets you add or attach sources to your course, and Collaborators lets you add or attach collaborators to your course.

To access these tabs, enter a course by either:

  • Adding a new course
    1. Click Courses an image of three stacked papers representing courses. in the sidebar
    2. Click the +New Course button at the bottom right of the screen
  • Editing an existing course
    1. Click Courses an image of three stacked papers representing courses. in the sidebar, hover your cursor on the course tile for the course you wish to enter until the tile darkens and tools are presented
    2. Click the Edit Course button

Course Cards/Sources/Collaborators Header Tools

The blue header has tabs to the cards, sources, and collaborators pages for the course you are actively in, as well as various tools to streamline your course building.

Published/Unpublished statusTells you if the course is published or unpublished.
Unpublished changes exist A drawing of a clock with and arrow going around it counterclockwise, this represents the pending changes icon.This yellow clock means local changes exist but have not been applied to the published course. To apply these changes to a published course, click the Save button, then click Publish.

Cards Tab

The Cards tab displays all the cards in your course. In this tab, you can:

  • Hover your cursor on any card to copy An image of two papers stacked, representing our duplicate icon., delete Image of a trash can symbolizing the delete icon., or Edit Card
  • Add a new card to the end of your course deck by clicking the +New Card button
  • Reorder your cards by clicking the dotted grip at the top of a card and dragging/dropping it into a new location
  • Switch between portrait or landscape viewing orientation by selecting either the landscape icon A drawing of a sideways rectangle, representing the landscape icon. or the portrait icon A drawing of a vertical rectangle, representing portrait view.

Sources Tab

The Sources tab lets you attach sources to your course. In this tab, you can:

  • Attach sources from your Source library to your course
  • Add a new source to your course (this will attach the source to your course as well as add it to your Sources library)
  • Detach or delete a source from your course

Collaborators Tab

The Collaborators tab lets you dictate who collaborated on your course. In this tab, you can:

  • Attach collaborators from your Collaborators library to your course
  • Add a new collaborator to your course (this will attach them to your course and store them in your Collaborators library)
  • Delete a collaborator from your course

Single Course Card Layout

The single course card layout is where you build/edit your card. Select the card type you wish to build from our pre-formatted selections available in the card type dropdown, add text and/or media, add narration and alt text (optional), and preview how your card will look on various devices. You can also use the sidebar to navigate to other cards in the course or add a new card. For more information on cards, click here.

The single course card layout has:

  • Tools in the header to make building and viewing your changes easier
  • A sidebar with previews of the other cards in the course (click these to access them)
  • The course card’s media, text, and other settings
  • A preview of what the built card looks like on various devices

Access the Course Card Layout

You can access the Single Course Card Layout by:

  • Adding a new card:
    1. From the Courses library an image of three stacked papers representing courses., hover your cursor on the course tile you wish to enter until it darkens and tools are presented.
    2. Click Edit Course. The Cards page for the course opens.
    3. Click the +New Card button or the add card icon An image of a blue circle with a white plus. This represents our add a card button. in the sidebar. Now you can select your card type from the dropdown.
  • Editing an existing card:
    1. From the Courses library an image of three stacked papers representing courses., hover your cursor on the course tile you wish to enter until it darkens and tools are presented.
    2. Click Edit Course. The Cards page for the course opens.
    3. Hover your cursor on the single card you wish to open until it darkens and tools are presented.
    4. Click Edit Card.

Course Card Header Tools

The course card header has tools to aid your course building.

Card selector Select the card you want to edit or view by selecting it from the dropdown card selector
Device preview
An image of 4 different device layouts. Admins can select from these to preview how their course displays on mobile, tablet, desktop, or some combination of these views.
Select between these device options to see how your card displays on them
Cancel/SaveCancel or Save the changes made to this card (if changes are made and saved to a published course, the changes remain at the local level until you click Publish)
Close XClick the X to close the course card page and return to the Cards tab of your course

Course Card Sidebar

The sidebar of the course card displays the other cards in your course as well as the Add a New Card button An image of a blue circle with a white plus. This represents our add a card button.. Icons above the sidebar An image of the sidebar left and right dock icons. let you switch which side of the screen it docks or lets you close the sidebar by clicking the X. In the clip below, we swap what side the sidebar docks, then we close and reopen it.
